Bon Appetit: Not Yo Mama's Banana Pudding

Banana Pudding lovers, UNITE!  Let start this post off by saying a couple of things.  1) I am by no means thinking that discovered this recipe and you've never heard of it (I'm sure many of you have) 2) I've been making this recipe for years and it gets me every time (if I were left alone in a room with this, I would for sure eat the whole 13x9 pan up) and 3) I have a food crush on Paula Deen.  Okay, moving on.  If you've never made this recipe and you like Banana Pudding, you MUST (I repeat: MUST) make this recipe today!
Here's what you need:

  • 2 bags Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies
  • 6 to 8 bananas, sliced
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 (5-ounce) box instant French vanilla pudding
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping thawed, or equal amount sweetened whipped cream
***I'll be the first to tell you that Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies are more expensive than Vanilla Wafers.  I'll also be the first to tell you that these cookies really make this recipe amazing.  Don't get stingy on Paula - just buy the cookies!

Here's what you do:

Line the bottom of a 13 by 9 by 2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.
(I was making this for mine and Stephen's small group so I improvised and used 2 9" pie pans instead of 1 13x9 and it worked wonderfully!)

In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer. Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture. Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Don't mind that butter sitting there - that was for something else :)
